Cleaning and descaling are different
Coffee oils collect around brew components; mineral scale accumulates in the water path. A detergent that handles oil is not automatically a descaler, and neither should be improvised or mixed.
A safe decision sequence
- Identify the exact model and current manufacturer instructions.
- Check whether a water filter changes the descaling schedule or machine setting.
- Use only the approved descaler, dilution, and reservoir volume.
- Run the documented program without interrupting required stages.
- Complete every rinse and reset step before brewing again.
Avoid these shortcuts
- Do not substitute vinegar when the manufacturer prohibits it.
- Do not mix acids, detergents, bleach, or other chemicals.
- Do not guess that a filter eliminates descaling forever.
- Do not force a blocked machine through repeated cycles when the manual directs service.
